A Relaxed Backyard

Thankfully, in Southern California you can dine and entertain outdoors almost year round. We also love to open the windows in the evening to let fresh air and a breeze flow in. The best! As we lean into a slow Summer, I want to spend extra time outdoors. This has me thinking of lunch on the grass, setting up the outdoor projector, grabbing a blanket and some wine or setting the table outside for a casual meal. A relaxed backyard is ideal for those slow Summer days.

Whether it’s the backyard, your porch, or a small patio find the spot where you want to settle in and create a space layered with cozy seating options for lots of lounging. Our backyard is not exactly where I want it to be, but we have space to work with, so that’s a plus. We had a pergola built last year and I purchased this teak dining table and chairs from Amazon on a whim that we love.

We still need an outdoor sofa. I can’t believe we’ve gone this long without one, but we’ve made it work. I’ve been eyeing this sofa that would go well with our wicker chairs we picked up from an estate sale last year. Mix and matching, lots of potted plants, wicker furniture and block print linens, and you’ve got a layered yet natural look.

The days of longing for some shade and a nice little breeze are upon us, so kick off your shoes, pour the lemonade or rosé, let the kids run wild, and just be. Isn’t that what a slow Summer is all about?

Here are a few things to help create that easy going Summer outdoors.

A teak table and chairs for all the al fresco dining.

Throw this cushion on the grass and cozy up.

The perfect beverage bar and it’s on sale!

Playful napkins for the table.

Bowls for chips, fruit or your fave candy.

Enamel cups are perfect for outside (and the kids!)

The perfect quilt for a picnic or for a nap.

A chic towel for the pool or splashing around.

Light up the night with these cordless lamps.

Love these straw placemats from Etsy.

This classic wicker sofa is on my wish list.

A bird feeder is a must!

This metal bench is perfect for a shady spot.

Don’t forget a beautiful doormat.
